4. The Proper Use of Allied TroopsAs Discussed above, many spells require friendly soldiers to achieve maximum effect, but these are not the only uses for friendly troops. Indeed it is a rare day when a battle mage cannot find a use for a number of more resilient and armoured comrades! Indeed, working in concert a unit of mages and infantry can work far more effectively than working separately. Firstly, friendly Infantry should be used as a shield against their counterparts, a unit of Mages is rarely skilled enough to incapacitate entire enemy units in one volley and enemy melee specialists can easily make a ruin of even skilled mages by dint of superior equipment and training. This works both ways however, and a unit of the Arcane tempest should always be ready and willing to help nullify enemy spell casters and support their protecting troops against other arcane foes against whom their weapons may be useless. It may also be possible for a unit of Mages to remain concealed within a larger body of infantry, allowing a surprise opening volley into an enemy who knew not what they were facing. In a similar vein a unit of combat mages posses superior mobility to many line units, allowing them to move freely across a battle line, administering arcane support where needed.
