Invasion 1107

For the attention of Alistair Coleman Gunn

Report on the events at Polgooth, Duchy of Cornwall – May 1107

Sir,

It is with deepest regret that I must inform you that during the conflicts which have occurred here in Polgooth over the past few days we have lost all Arcane Tempest Personnel, with the exception of myself. I have assumed the role of acting Captain until you are in a position to send an adequate replacement. I am presently commanding a group of raw cadets who arrived shortly after the battle took place. It is perhaps fortunate that they did not arrive in time to take the field alongside their comrades as I fear that we would be burying them also.

As you will no doubt already be aware from our intelligence officers, the invading army resembled the Fir Cruthen people, however once engaged on the battlefield it has transpired that they were a significantly better armed force with more powerful mages than any we have encountered before. The Albion troops were heavily outnumbered, outgunned, and composed of insufficient heavy infantry to hold back enemy troops in order for our archers, mages and support personnel to thin their numbers.

The Arcane Tempest conducted themselves with the utmost honour, courage and duty. It must be said that most of our number died alongside Lord Beaumont in the act of his personal defence.

  • Mage Captain Adapt Stuart Leftbridge – Died charging down an enemy battle line. Battered, magically exhausted, and armed with nothing more than an incredibly small knife.
  • Mage Adept Forsyth – Died in supporting and attempting the recovery of the fallen Captain
  • Mage Adept Wellington – Died attempting to drag the mortally wounded Lord Beaumont to safety whilst fending off several heavily armoured troops
  • Mage Lieutenant Adept O’Connor – Died whilst protecting a dying Wellington and calling for medical assistance
  • Mage Quartermaster Sergeant Apprentice Jim Crowe – Died in the defence of Lord Beaumont and in the support of Wellington and O’Connor.
  • Mage Sergeant Adept Douglas Haley – Fell whilst commanding a group of front line Albion troops and was targeted by multiple enemy mages. There’re only so many magic missiles a body can withstand.
  • Mage Adept Robert Bigelow – Took the field whilst pursuing the Path of Trask and thus without any realistic combat abilities. He was last seen leading a wall of heavily armoured Albion troops against superior enemy forces. He did this armed with nothing but a marching drum. I would like to recommend that he be posthumously awarded a citation for exceptional bravery in the face of insurmountable odds.
  • Mage Adept Alys of the Green – last seen screaming at her opponents with two heavily crippled arms from within a colossal furball of spinning steel, armour and crackling magical energies.
I trust that the Academy administration will see to it that the families of the deceased are informed of their loss and given the appropriate assistance where necessary.

On a separate note we have successfully conducted both of the planned rituals and we are ready to proceed with the next stage of the power exchanging vessel otherwise known as the Arcane Tempest Kettle. Before his demise on the battlefield, Lord Beaumont conferred upon me the title of Head Ritualist of Albion and the Lord Protector informs me that he will honour this title together with the grant of lands which accompany it. Once the command structure of our unit has been reinstated I will be able to once more devote my complete attention to my duties as Head Ritualist of Albion.

Lady Antonia Campbell
Mage Prelate, Head Ritualist of Albion and Acting Captain of the Arcane Tempest.
