Mage Scout Sergeant Adept Douglas Haley

Killed in Action, Cornwall, May 1107

Mage Scout Sergeant Adept Douglas Haley

Douglas Haley has what can be described as a Chequered past, however once past his gruff and crude exterior you see a man who for all his attiude is keen, analytical and possessed of remarkable intelligence for his station.

It is this I suspect, as much as a desire to prove himself better than his noble peers which causes him to excel in his training both martially and magically, indeed, while his inital assesment indicated he was capable only of first degree magic we were most surprised to see him casually throwing magic missiles one morning.

It is all these factors which lead me to recomend Douglas Haley not only for our Scout section, but also that he be granted the Rank of Sergeant.

- Final Training Report, Arcane Tempest

Douglas Haley was born a bastard son to a misbegotten whore in the back alleys of some town of another, he forgets the exact details as he was quickly dumped on a street corner before being hauled off to an orphanage he is equally vague about.

He then proceeded to escape from the Orphanage and lived out on the streets as a vagabond and runabout boy for various shopkeeps and less savoury individuals until he reached manhood and drifted into petty crime and thuggery.

Hauled up before a magistrate in [*7 years ago*] Haley had little idea of his age, his parentage or his path in life and was given the choice of Hard labour in the mines or military service among the Kings Skirmishers. Happily for the Arcane Tempest he chose the latter.

In combat he excelled, his deceptive bulk and ignorant manner concealed a keen intelligence and a low cunning, as well as an outright astounding facility for Swordplay. However it was only later that his true talents arose.

In a desperate skirmish against a band of marauding bandits, whose rogue wizard made them difficult to defeat Haley faced down the caster, but as he prepared to strike Haley down, the mans ferocious will somehow happened upon a counterspell deflecting his foes blast and allowing Haley to run him through cleanly.

Noting the odd occurance, his unit commander passed on this news which eventually came to the Ear of none other than Gunn himself, recognising the potential in the man Coleman quickly had Haley transferred into his new unit, the Arcane Tempest.
